Mission Report: NexusCon

Ein Wochenende wie aus einem Traum

Freunde, was ich auf der NexusCon in Berlin erlebt habe, klingt wie ein Traum, wie ein Logbucheintrag aus einem Paralleluniversum. Noch immer kann ich kaum glauben, was an diesem Wochenende geschah, doch der Reihe nach.

Einen Tag vor der Convention erhielt ich einen Anruf von Mr. StarTrek.de – oder wie er im Alltag heißt, René von Bodisco. Schon Monate zuvor hatte er geplant, einen Teaser-Trailer zur Eröffnung der NexusCon zu drehen, und zwar auf dem beeindruckenden Nachbau der Defiant-Brücke, die gleichzeitig Kulisse für unseren Fanfilm Kobayashi Maru ist, an dem ich mitwirken darf. Eigentlich sollte der Teaser kurz werden, doch dann kam die Nachricht, die mein DS9-Herz zum Pulsieren brachte: Wir bekommen Besuch von niemand Geringerer als Nicole de Boer – Ezri Dax höchstpersönlich. Und als wäre das nicht genug, fiel dieses Treffen auch noch auf meinen Geburtstag. Wenn das kein Wink des Universums ist.

Vor Ort herrschte Kälte, aber die Stimmung war warm. Ich unterhielt mich mit den Trek-Fans, wir warteten gespannt – und dann betrat Nicole die Brücke. Sie war sofort fasziniert vom Detailreichtum des Sets, erinnerte sich an ihre Drehtage auf der echten Defiant und kommentierte lachend: „Oh, that’s the elevator version of the Defiant bridge.“ Kurz darauf standen wir alle in der Maske, und plötzlich begann die gesamte Crew, mir direkt auf der Brücke ein Geburtstagsständchen zu singen. Ich war überwältigt. Dann drehte sich Nicole zu mir, sagte: „Happy Birthday, Charly – come on, let’s take some pictures.“ Und obwohl ich diese Fotos inzwischen oft gesehen habe, kann ich es immer noch kaum glauben.

Doch das Universum hatte noch ein Geschenk für mich: Auf dem Weg zu meinem Geburtstagsessen öffnete ich Instagram – und mein genau 2000. Follower, auf die Minute, war niemand Geringeres als Nicole de Boer selbst.

Am nächsten Tag stand die NexusCon bevor. Die Convention fand im Victor’s Residenz-Hotel Berlin-Tegel statt, das an diesem Wochenende wie ein Phoenix der Science-Fiction aus der Asche stieg. Draußen eisig, drinnen warm und voller Energie. Dank René erhielt ich ein VIP-Band, da ich gemeinsam mit meinen wunderbaren Freunden Miriam (psyfluencer@) und Jelena (jelli_belly) für StarTrek.de berichten durfte. Der Veranstalter und das komplette Team begegneten uns so freundlich, dass man sofort spürte: Hier arbeiten Fans für Fans.

Zu den VIP-Gästen gehörten neben Nicole auch prominente deutsche Synchronstimmen: Arne Stephan (Spock, SNW), Anke Reitzenstein (Seven of Nine), Heide Domanowski (Raffi Musiker) sowie Benjamin Stöwe (Dr. Hugh Culber). Wir durften sie alle interviewen. Während die Location sich füllte, startete die Con tatsächlich mit unserem frisch gedrehten Einspieler – dem Geburtstags-Teaser von der Defiant. Die Fans waren begeistert, und durch das Programm führte die großartige Nadja Gallera (nerdzika@), mit der ich im Teaser als Teil der Crew im Anflug auf DS9 zu sehen war.

Es folgten Vorträge und Panels von Dr.-Ing. Hubert Zitt, der mit seiner Art immer wieder die Wissenschaft in Star Trek zum Leben erweckt, sowie vom Emmy-prämierten VFX-Supervisor Ante Deković, der an Star Trek: Picard mitgearbeitet hat. Höhepunkt für mich war jedoch die Vorstellung unseres Fanfilms Kobayashi Maru. Gemeinsam mit dem Cast – darunter Aaron Le, Jens Dombek, Jelena, Tiffany Gauger, Lena Heintze, Lina Lenuweit und vielen weiteren talentierten Menschen – standen wir auf der Bühne und beantworteten Fragen zu Star Trek, zum Film und zu uns selbst. Meine Aufregung war groß, doch sobald ich das Mikrofon hielt, fühlte es sich an wie Warp 9, und ich wollte gar nicht mehr aufhören. Ich betonte, dass der Geist von Star Trek in jedem von uns lebt – und dass genau das unsere Hoffnung für die Menschheit ist.

Zwischendurch stärkten wir uns am Buffet, führten Interviews und produzierten gemeinsam humorvolle und emotionale Reels. Besonders berührt hat mich das Gespräch mit Hubert Zitt – ein tiefgründiger, herzlicher Mensch, der Wissenschaft mit Menschlichkeit verbindet. Auch das Interview mit der Synchronstimme von Raffi war eines der intensivsten des Tages; ich hielt die Kamera ganze 15 Minuten auf eines der spannendsten Gespräche, die ich je filmen durfte. Die Fans waren fantastisch, und obwohl die Location nicht riesig war, hatte jeder einen wunderbaren Tag voller Energie, Fragen und unvergesslicher Momente. Natürlich nutzte ich die Gelegenheit für viele Fotos – mit alten Bekannten, neuen Gesichtern und lieben Freunden aus der Trek-Community.

Dann bekam ich noch ein besonderes Geschenk: Die deutschen Stimmen von Seven of Nine und Raffi sprachen mir persönliche Nachrichten ein – direkt auf mein Handy. Für mich unbezahlbare Erinnerungen. Am Abend klang alles in einer entspannten Party aus, und Nicole ließ es sich nicht nehmen, mit den Fans zu reden und sogar mitzutanzen.

Und als ich am nächsten Morgen nach langem Schlaf aufwachte, geschah das Unfassbare: Nicole de Boer hatte ein Foto von uns – aufgenommen an meinem Geburtstag – auf Instagram gepostet, versehen mit Dank an die Veranstalter und Geburtstagsgrüßen an mich. Ich war sprachlos.

Ich bin unendlich dankbar für dieses Wochenende, für die Menschen, die ich treffen durfte, und für Star Trek, das uns alle verbindet. Doch einer Person gebührt besondere Ehre: René von Bodisco. Ohne ihn wäre all das nie möglich gewesen.

My trip to NexusCon – A weekend like something from another galaxy

Friends, what I experienced at NexusCon in Berlin sounds like a dream, like a logbook entry from a parallel universe. I still can't quite believe what happened that weekend, but let me start at the beginning.

The day before the convention, I received a call from Mr. StarTrek.de – or, as he is known in everyday life, René von Bodisco. Months earlier, he had planned to shoot a teaser trailer for the opening of NexusCon on the impressive replica of the Defiant bridge, which is also the setting for our fan film Kobayashi Maru, in which I am privileged to participate. The teaser was supposed to be short, but then came the news that made my DS9 heart race: we were going to be visited by none other than Nicole de Boer – Ezri Dax herself. And as if that weren't enough, this meeting also happened to fall on my birthday. If that's not a sign from the universe, I don't know what is.

It was cold on site, but the atmosphere was warm. I chatted with the Trek fans as we waited eagerly – and then Nicole entered the bridge. She was immediately fascinated by the richness of detail in the set, recalled her days filming on the real Defiant, and commented with a laugh, "Oh, that's the elevator version of the Defiant bridge." Shortly afterward, we were all in makeup, and suddenly the entire crew started singing a birthday song to me right there on the bridge. I was overwhelmed. Then Nicole turned to me and said, "Happy birthday, Charly – come on, let's take some pictures." And even though I've seen these photos many times since, I still can't quite believe it.

But the universe had another gift in store for me: on my way to my birthday dinner, I opened Instagram — and my 2,000th follower, to the minute, was none other than Nicole de Boer herself.

The next day, NexusCon was just around the corner. The convention took place at Victor's Residenz-Hotel Berlin-Tegel, which rose like a science-fiction phoenix from the ashes that weekend. It was freezing outside, but warm and full of energy inside. Thanks to René, I received a VIP pass, as I was allowed to report for StarTrek.de together with my wonderful friends Miriam (psyfluencer@) and Jelena (jelli_belly). The organizer and the entire team were so friendly that you could immediately sense that this was a place where fans worked for fans.

In addition to Nicole, the VIP guests included prominent German voice actors: Arne Stephan (Spock, SNW), Anke Reitzenstein (Seven of Nine), Heide Domanowski (Raffi Musiker), and Benjamin Stöwe (Dr. Hugh Culber). We were able to interview them all. As the venue filled up, the convention actually kicked off with our freshly filmed intro – the birthday teaser from the Defiant. The fans were thrilled, and the program was hosted by the wonderful Nadja Gallera (nerdzika@), who I appeared with in the teaser as part of the crew approaching DS9.

This was followed by presentations and panels by Dr. Hubert Zitt, who always brings the science in Star Trek to life with his unique style, and Emmy Award-winning VFX supervisor Ante Deković, who worked on Star Trek: Picard. The highlight for me, however, was the presentation of our fan film Kobayashi Maru. Together with the cast – including Aaron Le, Jens Dombek, Jelena, Tiffany Gauger, Lena Heintze, Lina Lenuweit, and many other talented people – we stood on stage and answered questions about Star Trek, the film, and ourselves. I was very excited, but as soon as I held the microphone, it felt like warp 9, and I didn't want to stop. I emphasized that the spirit of Star Trek lives in each of us – and that this is precisely our hope for humanity.

In between, we fortified ourselves at the buffet, conducted interviews, and produced humorous and emotional reels together. I was particularly touched by my conversation with Hubert Zitt – a profound, warm-hearted person who combines science with humanity. The interview with Raffi’s dubbing voice was also one of the most intense of the day; I kept the camera rolling for a full 15 minutes during one of the most exciting conversations I have ever had the privilege of filming. The fans were fantastic, and although the location wasn't huge, everyone had a wonderful day full of energy, questions, and unforgettable moments. Of course, I took the opportunity to take lots of photos – with old acquaintances, new faces, and dear friends from the Trek community.

Then I received a special gift: the German voices of Seven of Nine and Raffi recorded personal messages for me – directly on my cell phone. These are priceless memories for me. In the evening, everything came to a close with a relaxed party, and Nicole took the opportunity to talk to the fans and even dance with them.

And when I woke up the next morning after a long sleep, the unbelievable happened: Nicole de Boer had posted a photo of us — taken on my birthday — on Instagram, accompanied by thanks to the organizers and birthday wishes for me. I was speechless.

I am infinitely grateful for this weekend, for the people I had the privilege of meeting, and for Star Trek, which connects us all. But one person deserves special honor: René von Bodisco. Without him, none of this would have been possible.
